July 2009 Archives

The stretch of beach just north of Santa Monica, Will Rogers State Beach, was the setting for the outdoor fun yesterday. We got to see raging surf, dolphins, and our friend Beth. Yay, Beth!

After a while, we were joined by Miss R and mommy. The hole originally excavated by Beth and I turned into a sort of child-imitates-dolphin jumping event captured by the next two photos. Yep, Miss R gamely jumped across the two-foot expanse to belly flop on the sand followed by our boy. They did this repeatedly, like dolphins breaching the surface for air.

(I guess dolphins are actually more graceful, but I like to tie things together when I can.)

I was very happy to be privy to this group hug captured by Beth.

Finally, when the kids looked cooked, we left our sandy piece of paradise and went home.

Today was another SoCal scorcher. I thought I would take the boy and his pal to a nice shady park (see the canopy?), but there was little shelter to take. Still, the wee ones played their strange games...

I don't know how it started. By the time I got close enough to take a picture, J was looking out from his post proclaiming, "I am the best of ma'am."

Then C took a turn announcing that she is the best of ma'am. They did this, by turns, for a few minutes.

I don't know who is the best (or the craziest), but I can say that they were very fun to hang out with on a sun-filled morning.

To escape the heat yesterday, we met Miss R. and her mom at Under the Sea. I think
they look cute together. I am SO biased.

Jonah, cousins and Grandpa

So, Big Daddy was going through the trainwreck that is his desk this fine Saturday evening, Lo and behold, what did he find? A neglected SD card. Hmm, wonder what's on this?

Photos from our trip to Utah of course. FROM BACK IN APRIL.

Hopefully, this photo will lower your core body temperature during these balmy July days. Stick around, who knows what he'll find three months from now.

It is summer. And so there is a layer of sand covering everything in our lives. Fortunately, J was ready with his yellow shovel to rescue our feet today.

J requested a play-at-home day, so this afternoon we have no plans. The boy is spending his time naked, as is his preference (note the well-placed object in the modest photo below).

The latest ongoing development in the living room is called the pier. Come down to the construction site and witness the parking lot progress. Or, come check out the rides or the dolphin show. You might also try your luck at the ring toss.

A note of caution: the rules of the games change constantly and without warning.

Today at the beach, the boy adopted a new pet seaweed. He joyously pulled his new friend around in circles until such time that the friend lost relevance. Then J spun himself around in dizzying circles.

It was time to pump up the tires and head to the local game store. Lucky for mama, neither of us know how those new-fangled game controllers work.

No doubt Cici's sunglasses seal in the indie power pop flavor of this photo. The trio of friends played some superb follow the leader at Lindberg Park (otherwise known as "Red Playground" thanks to Ethan, on the left) today following the rescue of Cedar and her mom from their non-stop car alarm.

Other highlights from today: the continuing saga of no nap and playing in the new sandbox at school.

I believe the picture says everything about last night's bath. Feel free to offer your interpretation in the comments section.

After all this time, I finally got me a camera phone. Yay! I hope to post more pix on the fly of our boy in action.

Above you can see cool cat beating a drum at Playa del Rey lagoon. Mr. NoNap also played for my pleasure on our bike ride to the playground. (Maestro, another round of "This Old Man!")

I love a serenade.
